FAQ

What's the difference in IGCSE Maths Extended Paper 2 and Paper 4?

Paper 2 only tests superficial knowledge and understanding. Questions are usually very short and do not have sub-parts. They are direct and are relatively easily understood. Paper 2 has 70 marks and contributes 35% of the total weightage.

Paper 4 tests in-depth understanding. The questions are structured into several sub-parts that are connected to each other. Each sub-part may require you to combine your mathematical knowledge from a different topic in the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus. They are twisted and so are not easily understood at the first glance. You will need to think carefully before answering these questions. Paper 4 has 130 marks and it contributes 65% of the total marks.
*You will need to practice both types of questions (from past papers, of course).

What's the difference between the core and extended IGCSE Maths 0580 courses?

The Core curriculum in each subject is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject and is targeted at students expected to achieve grades C to G.

The Extended curriculum is made up of the Core curriculum and the Supplement. It has been designed for the more academically able and leads naturally into higher education or professional training. It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E. The Supplement describes the extra topics or depth which must be added to the Core curriculum to produce the Extended curriculum.

What is the best calculator to use for IGCSE 0580 Maths exam?

CASIO fx-85ES PLUS or CASIO fx-82ES. Both of them have better display especially showing the fractions and operations more clearly than the older ones.

Does IGCSE Maths 0580 require coursework?

No, mathematics exams rarely require coursework.
Some IGCSE like physics do have a practical component but they offer an "alternative to practical" paper for students where the institution cannot offer practical sessions. These alternative papers are often used by Home Ed students.
